You DecideYou Decide has returned! If you live in the local area come along and vote for how the Council, the Police and NHS Tower Hamlets spend a share of £2.4m.

There are only 120 places available for this event and they will go on a first-come-first-served basis, so be sure to register your interest as early as you can!

Hi there,

Couple of points. I can't make this date - can I go to another event or vote in another way?

Also, there are a lot more than 120 people in LAP1. Is it representative to have 120 people spending the money of thousands of people? What if 200 people want a say?

Hi James,

My name is Gareth and I'm the You Decide! project manager. I'm sorry to hear you can't make the event in your local area. Unfortunately you can't go to another event; after all the point is to vote for additional services in your local area and voting in another area would not acheive that.

On your second point the idea is to engage with as many residents as possible and so far that has tended to top out at around 100-120. And whilst we can't guarantee that they are fully representative we do work quite hard to ensure that all residents are aware of the process and have the opportunity to attend.

We then monitor attendance to assess whether the people who come along are representative. Broadly we've been quite succesful.

We have considered other voting forms (such as on-line) but the face to face deliberation and discussion between residents is crucial to coming to good solutions and that can only be provided at the public meetings.
