Blackwall Reach Regeneration Project
Encompassing Robin Hood Gardens the eight hectare
regeneration area reaches from the Blackwall DLR Station to the
south up to Woolmore Street and the disused St Matthias education
buildings to the north. To the west the boundary is Cotton Street
and to the east the Blackwall Tunnel Approach Road.
Many of the homes and business premises in the area are in need
of investment. There is a lack of good quality shops, and the
community facilities and open spaces would benefit greatly from
improvement. The plans for regeneration will address these issues
through a range of projects
The current proposals include:
- 1600 new homes – for rent, shared and other affordable forms of
ownership, as well as for private sale;
- Increase the size of Woolmore
School to allow more local children to attend;
- Increase the amount of open space in Robin Hood Gardens;
and
- New development for businesses and services.
The aim is to create a more vibrant and
sustainable community.
The project is being led by Tower Hamlets Council and the Homes and
Communities Agency, the National Housing and Regeneration
Agency.
Community Consultation
An ongoing community consultation programme will ensure that
local residents will have the opportunity to get involved and
influence the regeneration proposals including the design of new
homes, planning applications for the area and selecting a suitable
development partner.
