Refresh of the Community Plan
The Community Plan
sets out what local residents, businesses and organisations want
Tower Hamlets to be like and how they intend to improve the
borough.
This year the Plan is being refreshed. The
purpose of the refresh is to ensure that the priorities and
objectives outlined in the Plan are still important to local people
and will help to achieve the vision of ‘improving the quality of
life for everyone who lives and works in the borough’.
The refresh will be an opportunity to look
back on the borough’s key achievements, assess what its like to
live and work in the borough and look forward at how we can make
the most of the future opportunities facing Tower Hamlets.
We also anticipate that local
public services will have to make significant financial
savings over the next few years and the Community Plan will help us
to decide how we target our resources to achieve the Tower Hamlets
that we all want.
We are currently running
a borough-wide consultation process to engage key
stakeholders from across the community to have their say on the
Community Plan and the priorities.
That's why we're holding a series of events across the
borough for residents, workers and anyone with an interest in the
area to come along and have their say. The details of the major
events taking place are:
- Monday 2nd August,
6:30pm - 8:30pm at Richmix Cultural Centre, 35-47 Bethnal Green
Road, E1 6LA
- Thursday 5th
August, 6:30pm - 8:30pm at Mulberry School, Richard Street, E1
2JP
- Saturday 7th
August, 10:30am - 12:30pm at Central Foundation School, Harley
Grove, E3 2AT
- Monday 9th August,
6:30pm - 8:30pm at Docklands Sailing Centre, 235a Westferry Road,
E14 3QS
Don't worry if you can't attend any
of these: we'll be holding stalls at various locations across the
borough throughout August. Alternatively, you can have your say by
completing our online
survey.

The Community Plan
The
Community Plan
recognises that Tower Hamlets is a ‘community
of communities’, so a one-size-fits-all approach to problem solving
will not work.
The Community Plan explains how we will
improve the quality of life in Tower Hamlets over the next decade
or so in a whole range of areas – from education for our children
and young people to support and care for some of the oldest and
most vulnerable people.
The Community Plan reflects the aspirations
and needs of residents and people who work and invest in the
borough. The consultation process brought out many of the positive
features of Tower Hamlets – its great
diversity
, the wealth of opportunities and strong
communities. People in Tower Hamlets have much to be proud of.
However, much more needs to be done and there are immense
challenges facing us across a whole range of areas. Everyone should
realise their full potential in Tower Hamlets. We want to raise
ambitions and increase opportunities, particularly in our most
deprived
areas and communities.
we all have a part to
play in making this a reality... The
aspiration
of ‘One Tower
Hamlets’ runs throughout the Community Plan. One Tower Hamlets
is about reducing the
inequalities
and
poverty
that we see around us, strengthening
cohesion
and making sure our communities continue to live
well together. Most of all, One Tower Hamlets is about recognising
that we all have a part to play in making this a reality.
The challenges ahead are significant, but so
are the opportunities. The aims of this Community Plan are very
ambitious – and we make no apologies for that. The residents of
Tower Hamlets deserve the very best. We will continue to aim high
and seize opportunities.
