Tower Hamlets Job Website Launched
There is more help at hand for job seekers, as an
innovative website designed to assist Tower Hamlets residents into
work was launched yesterday (26 October 2009).
The website – www.mytowerhamletsjob.com –
offers exclusive access to entry level jobs within the borough at
NHS Tower Hamlets and a range of other local employers. Previously
run as a pilot scheme, the website has now officially been made a
permanent part of the borough’s employment services.
A new section has also been added to the website which helps job
seekers identify gaps in their skills, hone their interview
techniques and prepare for work. The site also flags up health and
welfare support available for people, as part of the comprehensive
approach to tackling unemployment in Tower Hamlets.
Councillor Oliur Rahman, lead member for employment and skills
welcomed the initiative, saying it would be a helpful tool for
local people looking for work.
There are many people in the borough
who are trying to find employment...“There are many people
in the borough who are trying to find employment and need as much
support as possible to make their careers aspirations a reality.
This website really helps people find work in the borough,
particularly within NHS Tower Hamlets.
“The site’s new additions are an exciting addition, giving
useful advice to people who aren’t quite ready to start work yet,
but are interested in preparing themselves for the workforce.”
Mytowerhamletsjobs.com welcomes users with a news feed, links to
relevant external sites, information about partners and an
assessment that will guide users into one of two following sections
– the talent pool and the skills pool.
The skills pool, the site’s latest addition, will assist people
who need further development before finding a job. A comprehensive
assessment will examine their skills set and a development plan
will be created to prepare them for employment.
The talent pool is for people who are ready to work and will
give them access to a selection of local jobs. Applicants will be
closely monitored to guarantee that their progress through the
recruitment process is supported.
The website was officially launched today at a career workshop,
held for hundreds of people who attended this month’s popular
'You’re Hired! Jobs Fair' at Canary Wharf, where more than 5,000
job seekers turned up to meet with potential employers.
Councillor Rahman said: “The council and JobCentre Plus wanted
to provide ongoing support and guidance for people who attended the
jobs fair, which is why we’ve offered this follow-up workshop to
help people gain useful, practical skills. It's this sort of help
and training that can make all the difference when people are
looking for work.”
