Talking with the 3rd Sector
More
than 90 local voluntary organisations and community
groups attended the Third Sector consultation event this week
(Tuesday 18 August) – to help shape Tower Hamlets Council’s
Third Sector Strategy.
During the event people shared their views and
opinions about how things can be improved to develop the council’s
Third Sector Strategy. Third sector is the term used
to describe non-government organisations which
benefit local communities, such as charities, and social
enterprises.
The Strategy aims to develop better ways
of working with local community groups and voluntary organisations
to improve life in the borough.
Councillor Rania Khan, Lead Member for
Regeneration, Localisation and Community Partnerships, spoke at the
event and said: “We have a really active Third Sector in Tower
Hamlets. Over 2,500 organisations are working hard to deliver
services to local people.
“I’m glad to see lots of local organisations,
especially the smaller groups, are taking this opportunity to get
involved. They play a vital role in making sure residents’ voices
are heard and that local people are involved in decision
making.”
