How can you get involved?

There are many different ways to get involved with the Tower Hamlets Partnership.

LAP Steering Group

There are eight Local Area Partnerships across the borough, each with its own steering group.

The LAP steering groups are made up of around 15 local residents The LAP steering groups are made up of around 15 local residents, six ward Councillors and six service provider representatives.  As a group they have a number of aims, including to:

  • help deliver the Partnership’s objectives and contribute to performance against the targets set out in the Local Area Agreement
  • develop innovative approaches to the delivery of key targets at a local level based on gathering intelligence, promoting joint working and joint problem solving
  • work with the Community Plan Delivery Groups to agree local activities and projects linked directly to the LAA targets most relevant for their LAP area
  • review and monitor local evidence on performance and outcomes to inform action planning
  • develop local participation and empowerment
  • help build local capacity
  • channel entrepreneurial energy

Each LAP works with the Community Plan Delivery Groups to agree a set of priority projects/activities for their local area to help deliver the LAA and the Community Plan.  These are developed in consultation with the Delivery Groups and based on robust data including:

  • performance and statistical data
  • financial data
  • the views of local residents

Resident’s Panel

The Resident’s Panel has been established to be a representative sample of the borough population.  It is made up of around 4000 local people who are asked their opinions on a range of issues/services affecting the borough (open spaces, cleaner/safer neighbourhoods, the budget etc).  They are recruited according to their background characteristics e.g.: age, gender, ethnicity and area of residency (LAP).

They give their time in the following ways:

  • Respond to a telephone survey (4-6 times per year).  This will never take longer than 10-15 minutes;
  • Attend focus groups/reflector groups: incentive to attend is usually about £15; the groups last for approx 1.5 hours;
  • Attend scenario planning sessions/workshops: incentives are usually about £50; the session would last about 3-4 hours.

Members do not need any specific skills, knowledge or experience to get involved – we just want people who live in the borough.  No knowledge or understanding of the way services are run is required.

e-Panel

In addition to the standing resident panel, we are exploring the use of an e-panel. An e-panel is a way of bringing the council and the people together, electronically.

It is particularly useful for those who would like to get involved with the Partnership and have access to a computer but cannot for whatever reason attend meetings and/or events.

Unlike our standing resident panel, this will not be a representative sample of the community at this stage.  It is a new development so we are keen to attract anyone who is happy to participate through their computer, the only condition being that you live or work in the borough.

To apply to join the e-panel, participants should complete the online form.
